Megat Iqbal & Co. is a Malaysian law firm founded by Megat Syazlee Mokhtarom and Mohd Iqbal Zainal Abidin. The firm’s practice brings together legal advice, negotiation, litigation and transactional work.
We approach each matter with attention to the client’s legal position, the available options and the practical consequences of each course of action. Professional independence and care in handling clients’ information guide our work.
The firm was founded by Megat Syazlee Mokhtarom and Mohd Iqbal Zainal Abidin on the principle that legal representation is not merely a service, but a professional responsibility.
In its early years, the firm’s clients were primarily individuals, families and enterprises with close personal and professional ties to the founders. This shaped our culture of accountability, loyalty and personal responsibility to those we represent.
That ethos continues to inform our practice today. We do not regard our role as limited to providing legal opinions or conducting proceedings. We regard ourselves as entrusted advisers and defenders, responsible for standing with our clients through difficult, complex and consequential legal challenges.
We approach legal problems as strategic risk issues, not merely technical questions. We work with clients to resolve disputes while protecting their legal position and supporting informed decisions about what comes next.
We combine advisory, negotiation, litigation and appellate work within a single strategic framework. This allows us to assist clients from early risk assessment and dispute prevention through crisis response, injunctive relief, trial and post-dispute planning.
The firm has acted in matters involving public interest, reputational exposure, child protection, regulatory oversight and institutional accountability. These matters require legal precision and careful attention to their public, regulatory and stakeholder implications.
Our advice is grounded in careful examination of the facts, documents and applicable law. We identify the issues that matter, assess the available evidence and explain the options and risks so clients can make informed, accountable decisions.
We maintain professional independence, objectivity and ethical integrity, including in disputes involving power imbalances, public institutions or vulnerable parties.
